Book: The Glass Castle

I just recently finished reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It has had a lasting impression on me, as this woman grew up with nothing it seems, but at the same time her life experiences are so much that one might think she grew up with everything. She moved around all over the place and was extremely poor, but the way she writes is like, well thats life and you deal with it. She never complains about how she used to live, she embraces it and makes it into a part of her history and who she is today. I think its an amazing story to remind people of a few things. The first thing being that people complain too much these days, when really, they have everything they need right in front of them to enjoy a full and pleasant life. They just dont want to see that. And secondly, it reminds me of the fact that material things arent always so necessary in my life. People judge their worth on all the shit they have, but not on how far they have come, or what they have to say and offer. I sometimes lose sight of that. So the next time you feel like your life sucks or you have been dealt a horrible hand, read this book and see what your life COULD have been like. It will make you appreciate what you have at this moment.

All I Want For Wednesday is....

A Castle

When I was a kid I used to dream of living in a creepy castle. I used to get so excited thinking of all the hidden passageways and libraries that I would discover (because of course I wouldnt decorate the castle, I would have moved in and kept it the way it was....creepy).

This has stemmed a Canada Day adventure of finally going to visit Casa Loma here in Toronto. I dont normally love doing really tourist-like things in the city I live in (I have never been to the CN Tower!) but come on, its a castle!!! With secret passageways and hidden staircases!!

I will post some pics once the adventure has been had :)

Beast's From the Past

These things live in my house. I live in constant fear that one will come near me. Pray for my soul.

Take a look at this and think about how much you love Summer!
You know, I kind of really love Summer. I didn't for the longest time. I was always complaining about how hot it was and blah blah....but I figured out one day that complaining was not making it any better for me. Actually, it was making it kind of worse. So I started 'tricking' myself into loving it when I was a sweaty beast, and loving it when I wanted to fall down in the street from dehydration. And for a long time it didnt work at all. But then I started noticing that everyone was a wilted little flower in this city in the Summer, and that no matter how many times a day you shower, you are still pretty ripe about half an hour later. And then magic happened and I began to love it. So enjoy Summer people!!! Or if you dont enjoy it, then I dont want to hear any belly-aching about how cold it is 4 months from now!!! :)
P.S.- My favorite thing in the Summer is when you wash your face and the water runs black. Amazing.

I will Also Conquer YOU

Tonight. Update: I CREAMED the Great Tiger. Screw you and your magic punch!

I WILL Conquer You!

So in my pursuit of a 'fit' me, I have accepted the challenge of running (although walking is more like it) up the CN Tower stairs. There are 1776 stairs to the main deck level (please let us only climb to there!!) and 2579 stairs to the Sky pod. There are 144 flights if I am not mistaken. That is 122 flights MORE then the Ghostbusters climbed to save Dana and to fight Gozer the Gozarian, and you saw how tired they were!!! If I survive, I will let you know how it goes. So I have been training now for a few weeks and can walk up 800 stairs in one session. Wanting to collapse the whole time mind you, but I know it will get easier. I have also been documenting the way with pictures, so once I get some more I will add them and you can take a look at my fine ass!!! Haha. Anyway, I am really excited to be doing this. It sort of goes along with my 2009: Year of Doing Things, and to get myself healthier and happier. This is only the beginning in setting challenges for myself. Next year I want to walk 600km along the Bruce Trail. We'll see how that one goes though! Anyway, take a look at this beast: http://www.concretecontractor.com/graphics/cn-tower4.jpg
