Stories From the Mind of a Lunatic

Well this one's a bit late isn't it? I had a back log of shit to say, what do you want from me? JEEZ!!

So old man Winter tried to snow on Christmas morning...I suppose a light dusting is better than rain or just a gloomy day. So thanks for that! It was a Christmas miracle!

We were excited to wake up on Christmas morning.  So excited in fact, that I pretty much didn't sleep at all the entire night. So the first order of business was to make coffee. With Bailey's in it of course. What else is Christmas for besides being perfectly acceptable to drink at 8:30 in the morning? With some cheesy holiday music thrown in for good cheer.

Oh we went there. We turned on the fireplace channel and WE LOVED IT.

In Dave's family, the stocking was always more fun than the real presents. I will have to remember that next year and not buy him lame underwear and some chocolates. He spoiled me with my stocking! Everything in it was gold man, gold!

Yes, we had a stocking for the cats, and I know for a fact they loved everything they got #spoiledrottenfurballs.

I did good on choosing that sweater and those jeans. Well, he picked the jeans out and I bought him the same sweater last year. The guy is a creature of habit, but hey, makes it easy for me to buy him articles of clothing. And look how happy he is, the simpleton! Just kidding Dave!

And then we headed to my parents for a great dinner and some family time. Of course it was special this time around because my dad was home from the hospital following his heart attack, and my brother's wife was also out of the hospital.  They were both a little worse for wear, but present and accounted for which was a huge relief.  I love my family. And I love my brother's in laws, who were also there for Christmas dinner...I wouldn't want it to be any other way.

The riffraff table. Speaking of riffraff, my brother had a big announcement to make at dinner: he and Sara are having a baby!!! I knew this, as did the rest of the immediate family, but my cousins and aunt and uncle didn't know. So it was even more cause for celebration. You should have heard the table of old folks erupt with glee, it was heart warming.

Sara got me for secret Santa, and she certainly picked out the best gift anyone could have ever given me. Onesie pajamas? C'MON!!! You want me to die of happiness over here?

And for my birthday, my brother and Sara got me a collectable Harry Potter wand which also caused some major nerdgasm's and high squeals from yours truly. What shall I do with this wand? How shall I display it? This is my first real piece of nerd paraphernalia  It might call for a glass case to display it and then I will truly have joined the ranks. I plan on watching all the movies again and using my wand to pretend like I am a part of it all.

Boxing Day, and we do it all over again at Dave's parents house. They were calling for a giant Boxing Day storm so I was nervous for us to leave his folks' at a decent time later on that night. All was quiet and clear at 11 in the morning.

Oh but there were clouds looming.

It's always exciting when you know a storm is coming. At least it is for me. All that anticipation and checking of weather reports/ maps, and then it finally hits! Fun times!

Except when you are stuck in the thick of it on your way home and you have an hour drive ahead of you. Gah. Nerve-racking. I am already nervous in cars when things are all good, so throw a big storm in there and I am essentially a wreck. Normal speed limits on the 400 series highways are 100 km/h. Everyone was driving 50km. It wasn't fun.

But we made it safe and sound. Once we dropped the car off (Zipcar) and were on our way home on foot, I was happy. Stupidly so, as per my awesome face. I was also pretty excited that it was snowing. I love snow!

Back to work tomorrow for a half day, and then it's New Years Eve! I am going out for dinner locally and then coming home to get into my onesie and drink champagne.  I have never been much of a partier on New Years.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years! See you in 2013!!

So, so happy to be out of those stockings and heels. This is more like it: woolies and leggings...it's like being in pajamas that are acceptable to go outside in!

Dave's work Christmas party was two weeks ago and damn it was a doozy.  Seriously. I'm only half joking when I say I am still recuperating from it.

Ubisoft really does know how to do it right.

Hello out there!  I know I said I was going to write all these blog posts in December and try and be a good girl, but sometimes shit happens.  Crazy shit that is more important and needs to be dealt with directly.

Sometimes I have really good ideas.  Like this....BEHOLD. Yogurt in a glass. With a banana and some granola.  I bet I am a pioneer with this invention. Right? I AM A PIONEER *angry face*

I had to dress up for work last week.  Ummmm....I never dress up.  Ever. I hate it.  Sometimes I think that it would be fun, and then I do it when the occasion calls for it and am like "UUGHHHHHHHHH" the whole time I am in said dress and heels #slobforlife.

I love that 5 people voted that they secretly love me and want to marry me.  FIVE!! Well let's do it then guys and gals! We can go to Niagara Falls and have a big fun group wedding! I'm serious now.

I walked down the 'Christmas street' on my way home last night and felt a little more Christmas-y in spite of not having any snow.  I am just going to have to get over it and accept the fact that we might not get any (again) this Winter.  Such a bummer.  Oh well, as long as it stops going from cold to warm and just stays cold, I will be happy enough with that.  The Weather Network is calling for 15cm of snow on the 21st (the day before my birthday! Weeee!), but I won't hold my breath for it.  I told my mom the other day that if Toronto winters were to continue being this way, I would have to move further North.  I NEED snow in the winter time!!! So tired of everyone whining about the snow in Canada!

I was feeling a bit down today so I bought myself some super cute, extra long leg warmers off of Ebay. These ones actually:

I am challenging myself to write a post a day until the end of December.  Well, maybe not on Christmas day, but you get my drift.  Expect a lot of dry spells with some tumbleweeds because come on guys, who are we kidding?

Work has been ok.  Except for that pain between my shoulders that feels a lot like TENSION, things are cool.  I am on vacation in 7 days, praise Jesus hallelujah.  Shit went down hard at work today, in a good way.  Some changes are taking place that are good, and I feel good about it.  So that's all good. I said 'good' a lot there so you would believe me that it's good.

I have lost my emails twice in a week now, all of them gone, poof! Just nowhere to be found.  Believe me, I know all the tricks and they are gone.  And when I ran out of tricks I contacted our IT people and they couldn't figure it out either.  In fact, they told me to do all the tricks that I had already done.  Tell me why I am not a computer nerd again? I could be making the big bucks, working with people who play WOW and Skyrim all day, learning about interesting places that pimples can grow.  Just kidding.  I fucking love nerds.

2008, my old laptop set up.  Pretty cool right?

I just learned from Wikipedia that Wassailing means caroling.  Who knew right? Wikipedia.  And I'm sure Josh knew (go here...I promise you will get sucked in and never leave), because he is a bottomless pit of knowledge that guy.

Anyway, t'is the season to gain a gazillion pounds.  I'm kind of ok with it.  Want to know why? Because it's all in my head.  I mean yes, I tend to put on a few pounds during the winter months, but sometimes I think I am over-doing it to the extreme when I'm not.  What the hell Winter?  Why would you make the ONLY person on the planet who loves and cares about you, feel that way?  Maybe it's all the extra layers.

Or the baking.  All the baking! I decided to make my best friend's wedding cookies as a treat and boy were they ever delicious. She got married a year ago. Thankfully we didn't get sick or anything from these. Instead we died from the awesomeness.  Read the little card they attached to each jar of cookies, so cute.

This past weekend was just what Dave and I needed.  It had been a hard, emotionally exhausting week, and a little shutting out of the world was required. Pjs, video games, and some Bailey's were on the menu, and what a delicious menu it was.

Also, a long walk to Bloor West Village to exchange our modem to a better model. Don't let the sunshine fool you...it was COLD.  But it was beautiful, and brisk, and made me feel alive.

This past weekend was a busy one. Kind of non-stop, which I can either not mind or hate. This time I didn't mind it that much, kept my mind off of other things that are going on right now.

Like Dave's porn 'stache.  It's a good one no? Whenever I see it I just want to rip my clothes off and fling my underwear at him. I don't really, but I don't blame anyone who does.  In fact, I would pay to see that.

I think it might snow soon. I know I know, by putting it out there I am asking the universe to make it snow. That's the point. I love snow. Dave and I went grocery shopping on Friday night and it was spitting when we started out.  But THEN...when we were driving towards the grocery store it started snowing! For real snow for a full 10 seconds!! I didn't have anything on me to film it, plus I wouldn't have been fast enough, but Snow Watch 2012 is ON!!  My eye is on the sky people!

Well, we weathered the storm.  Toronto did not get anywhere near the damage that parts of the States did, but there was a casualty...right down the street from where I live.  A woman got hit by a Staples sign and died. So awful.

Other than that horrible news, Toronto suffered some minor damage: huge trees blew over, some flooding of streets, a few crushed cars and what seemed like a whole lot of fires breaking out as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  In my neighborhood tons of people are without power (thankfully not us) and they may not get it back until Thursday.

Hey there friends and neighbors! Mother Nature has her period today didn't you know?

What with all the crazy weather going on in the world these past few days, how are are we all supposed to function?  Barometric pressures rising and falling, rain rain and maybe a little snow (not for Toronto yet! Snow Watch 2012 is not officially on!), and now the crazy ass wind that is coming our way.  It's enough to make you want to put on your best hurricane gear and hide under the bed.

Ok so where were we? Ah yes. I decided to go back to my roots and dress how I did when I was 15. You know, like a boy. Why not right? You only live once. Or in this case, twice.

This past weekend I took my sister to London, Ontario to party at one of our favorite bars for her birthday.  The bar is called Downtown Kathy Brown's and it's such a strange mix of people...which makes for a crazy time when we go.

Since it was her big day, I wanted her to have a lot of fun.  You only turn 20-17 once and I wanted to make it a good one! So I got us a hotel room and peaced out of Toronto for the night.  So I dressed in my favorite Kristen Stewart outfit (for the record, I was here first and have dressed this way forever) and we set sail for London town.

I am taking my sister to London this weekend to party for her birthday, but in the meantime, I leave you  with these two amazing videos.

If you really enjoy time lapse photography and watching a city wake up and go to sleep, then you will enjoy this one from Tom Ryaboi.  So good.

And for the video game nerds out there, I leave you with this awesomeness:

Have a great weekend everyone!

It's a rainy day here today.  Which I don't mind, as it happens to match my mood.  And I wear my moods like an accessory. An accessory to murder.  Just kidding.  I don't even know what I am saying anymore.

Two weekends ago was Thanksgiving here in old Canada.  Which means, food!  Just kidding.  I know we all remember why the Thanksgiving tradition came about and all those ummm....Indians and land and turkey?  *crickets*

Dave and I pulled our asses out of bed to attend my family's tradition of gorging on meat and cheesecake.  Come on, you all know that's what Thanksgiving is to you these days, don't try to lie!  It was a very beautiful and overcast Fall day out there, which I did give thanks for because...I like days like that.

I was going to write a post about how I have taken up running (I have only run twice, for like, 4 minutes at a time) but then I thought, that is so fucking boring. So I figured I would just write and see what comes out of this fortress of awesome that is me (I've also had three beers and no dinner so...).

I present to you a bit of a photo dump. None of this will have any coherence whatsoever, so you know, you have been warned.

Also, I keep seeing bugs crawling on me out of the corner of my eye today.  Tired, or an acid flashback?  Probably the latter....hopefully my skin won't start melting.

So yeah, where were we?  Two weekends ago, my mom and sister and mom's friend crossed the border into good old Niagara Falls, NY AKA my favorite place to be for shopping extravaganzas!  TARGET!  We were just passing Niagara Falls at this time, and it was super pretty.  It reminded me of 6 years ago (or so) when Dave and I went on a fun trip to Niagara Falls and played arcade games the whole time and ate fancy food and walked under the Falls.  We had a blast! We need to do that again...

I am happy to say that I am back on track! I felt so freaking guilty about that burger (why? Who the fuck knows right?) that I don't think I will back out on this challenge again until it is over.  I will see it through!

Honestly though, I think the important thing I have learned from all this is paying attention to my eating habits.  I was too quick to feed my emotional hunger instead of just paying attention to what was going on in my brain (I think too much) and even my body.  The cravings that I get at work are because I am stupid bored and want to fashion a noose and hang myself from a rafter....so to prevent my untimely death, I would run to the candy store and buy some candy.  But my all time favourite thing to do on chilly nights was to curl up on the couch with Dave, blankets piled on top of us, watching a movie and eating some sort of junk food item that I craved.  Since those nights have been upon us for a while and we have already watched many a movie curled up and cozy, I haven't really missed the junk food part of it.  To be honest, I haven't even thought about it.

I also just realized that I haven't had a craving for sugar or junk food in a few days.  I didn't even realize it.  So there you go, maybe this challenge REALLY IS doing something for me.  I think that the real challenge will be afterwards, when I know I can have it all again.  I am curious to see if I dive back in there or if I am more wary of the shark infested waters.  We shall see.

Only ten more days to go!
