Toronto in August

by - August 28, 2013

Even though I am more than ready for pumpkin everything and snuggling under blankets (sorry Summer people!), I do love this city in August. It gets this light about it...and the cicadas start their end of summer song.

The heat in August is always something else too. Like, it's hot. The hottest. Humid and hot. That's why this delicious banana chocolate ice cream is the best. Freeze some bananas, throw them in your nutri-bullet (or whatever you have that blends), put in some scoops of cocoa powder (I put two scoops for two bananas), add some water or coconut milk (or regular milk if you are into that), blend, refreeze, eat. It's that freaking simple.

Evening summer drives are also the best. The shadows are long and the city is pretty. We have been saving up to buy our own car, but it wouldn't be smart to try and find something until I get a job, and have been at that job past my probation. In the meantime, we just use Zipcar, which we love!

I wanted to drive along the Lakeshore, through pretty neighbourhoods with lots of trees.

The clouds on this night were putting on a good show.

Love of my life. Almost 9 years!

Our legs are exactly the same length. He is taller than me, but our legs are the same length. I like telling people this.

Haha. There were a lot of gnats. Clouds of them. Scaredy cat.

People live here. Right on the water. We drive around a lot, especially around super rich neighbourhoods, wondering if the people who live in the gorgeous houses are thankful for what they have. Because we are jealous. And then we wonder what they have had to give up to have all of that. It's our way of making ourselves feel better.

These are the things that are beautiful and meant to be enjoyed in this life. And hey...they're free!

I never want to leave this city. I like getting out of it as much as I can, but I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Currently I am trapped in one room of my house, because there is construction going on in the rest of it. Well, only in the bathroom and a bit in the bedroom, but it might as well be all over the house because the two oafs working on things like to spread their mess FAR and wide. I have no use of a toilet, and my poor cats are trapped in here with me. I know that nobody likes this kind of thing, but I REALLY HATE THIS KIND OF THING. It makes me crazy. No amount of zen thinking and telling myself everything is fine, helps. I hate it and it makes me crazy.

So I'm trying to drown my misery by having a Buffy marathon. And trying not to think about how much I have to pee, and the mess I am going to have to clean up later.

What are you all up to today?
